ARTISTIC DIRECTOR / DANCER / CHOREOGRAPHER

ALESSANDRA CORONA is from Cagliari Italy (Sardinia) and was trained in ballet at the National Ballet Academy in Rome. She also studied Graham, Limon, Cunningham and Jazz techniques (Luigi, Matt Mattox) under a scholarship at the Renato Greco School. In Italy she danced for ASMED Ballet Company directed by Paola Leoni, Gino Landi (RAI UNO TV). She performed with Danza Prospettiva directed by Vittorio Biagi, at the Teatro Dell’Opera di Roma and in Lausanne (Switzerland). She toured internationally for 5 years as a principal dancer with Renato Greco Dance Company at prestigious theaters such as BROOKLYN ACADEMY OF MUSIC in NEW YORK.

After moving to New York, Alessandra was a principal dancer with Ballet Hispanico for 15 years, originating roles in ballets by renowned Euopean and American choreographers. With Ballet Hispanico, Alessandra performed in their regular seasons at the Joyce Theater and at the most famous theaters in the USA, Europe and South America.

Ann Reinking selected Alessandra as a principAL dancer for 2 years in the international tour company of the musical “Fosse” which was performed in Europe and Asia, including 7 weeks of touring performances in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka (Japan). She has performed as a guest artist at various international dance festivals, including “Notte di Stelle” at the historical Amphitheatre in Cagliari (Italy), Villa Pamphili Summer Festival in Rome, Seattle International Dance Festival, Jacob’s Pillow Festival, Kick-Off Festival at the Lincoln Center Theater, City Center “Encore” Season with the production of the Richard Rogers musical “No Strings”. Alessandra was part of the Summer 2003 Season at the SANTA FE OPERA THEATER, she WAS a principAl dancer in “LA BELLE Hélène”AND IN THE WORLD PREMIERE OF “MADAM MAO”.

In 2012 Ms. Corona founded “Alessandra Corona Performing Works LTD” where she directs and performs in her own productions.

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR STATEMENT

“My name is Alessandra Corona, and I am the Artistic Director of Alessandra Corona Performing Works Ltd, a New York City based repertory dance company founded in 2012. My mission is to showcase stimulating and emotionally engaging choreography through the integration of dance, music, theater and visual media.  My vision is to encompass a unique aesthetic through European theatrics and visceral American modern dance. This fusion of different cultures and styles has produced a stunning repertoire, including creations by European and American choreographers such as Ramon Oller, Manuel Vignoulle, and Maiya Redding. These works has been received well and inspired audiences worldwide.

My motivation is to continue expanding on the company’s efforts of artistic research and development, creating future partnerships for performance and choreographic opportunities.I have a strong roster of world class artists from amazing backgrounds that have high levels of artistry and collaborating potential.”
